Entre as singularidades da nossa região, está o “jovem” Rio Madeira, um agente natural fundamental na separação de espécies e no processo de especiação das Aves amazônicas. Winged Shores of the Madeira River
Composed of three main birdwatching itineraries, each with unique characteristics and distinct landscapes of the Amazon:
Porto Velho – RO Itinerary: It includes the adjacent districts and municipalities, with emphasis on the banks of the Madeira River and its forest, transitional, and open field areas.
Canutama and Humaitá – Southern Amazonas Itinerary: It covers forest regions, campinarana, and open areas on the left bank of the Madeira River.
Novo Aripuanã and Apuí – Amazonas Itinerary: It covers the right bank of the Madeira River and its tributaries, such as the Roosevelt and Aripuanã rivers, passing through forests, transitional areas, and campinaranas.
Itinerary 01
Itinerary 01 – based in Porto Velho – RO (and its districts) and adjacent municipalities:
- Birds of the left bank of the Madeira River – forests, transitional areas, and open habitats. In this region, we may have the chance to observe the recently described and endemic Tupana Scythebill (Campylorhamphus gyldenstolpei) and the elusive Undulated Antshrike (Frederickena unduliger), among other species.
- Birds of the right bank of the Madeira River – forests, beaches, wetlands, and open habitats. In this region, we may have the chance to observe the endemic Natterer’s Striolated Puffbird (Nystalus striolatus) and the threatened Rondonia Bushbird (Clytoctantes atrogularis), among other species.
- Island birds – forests, wetlands, and beaches. In this region, we may have the chance to observe species restricted to river islands of the Madeira and Solimões rivers, such as the Olive-spotted Hummingbird (Thalaphorus chlorocercus) and the Parker’s Spinetail (Cranioleuca vulpecula), among other species.
- Birds of the right bank of the Madeira River – forests and open habitats. In this region, we may have the chance to observe the Blue-green Emerald (Chrysuronia rondoniae) and the White-winged Potoo (Nyctibius leucopterus), among other species.
Itinerary 02
Itinerary 02 – based in Canutama and Humaitá, southern region of the state of Amazonas:
- Birds of the left bank of the Madeira River – forests, campinarana, and open habitats. In this region, we may have the chance to observe the recently described Campina Jay (Cyanocorax hafferi) and the Predicted Antwren (Herpsilochmus praedictus), among other species.
Itinerary 03
Itinerary 03 – based in Novo Aripuanã and Apuí, southern region of the state of Amazonas:
- Birds of the right bank of the Madeira River and its tributaries (Roosevelt and Aripuanã) – forests, campinarana, transitional areas, and open habitats. In this region, we may have the chance to observe the Chico’s Tyrannulet (Zimmerius chicomendesi), the Brown-throated Parakeet (Eupsittula pertinax), the Aripuana Antwren (Herpsilochmus stotzi), the Roosevelt Stipplethroat (Epinecrophylla dentei), among other species.

– Breakfast included in all field trips that do not require overnight stays outside the Porto Velho base. Subject to consultation and availability.
- Owl Watching Daily Rate (25% surcharge per night)
R$ 150,00 – 01 pax | R$ 175,00 – 02 pax | R$ 225,00 – 03 pax
– The total amount must be settled at the end of the birdwatching tour.
